About Allu Rama Lingaiah







Allu Rama Lingaiah (1922 - 2004)


Allu Rama Lingaiah born in Palakollou, West Godavari, AP, India on 1st October 1922.He was a comedian during the golden years of Telugu film and acted in over one thousand films as comedian and Comedy Villain.

He practiced Homeopathy before films. He was arrested during the Quit India Movement. He played dramas for Praja Natya Mandali before joining films.

Allu began his film career in 1953 with Puttillu and finished his last film Jai in the year before his death.

Telugu Cinema viewers remember him for his antics, jokes, humor, and many performances. Allu played memorable roles in classics like:

1.Mayabazar (one of the Sarma-Sastry duo)

2.Missamma

3.Muthyala Muggu (where he played as a monkey-bit man, imitating the monkey, towards the climax)

4.Sankarabharanam (his speech preceding the song dorakunaa ituvanti seva... commenting the downfall in current-day music, and the scene where he admonishes Somayajulu)

5.Saptapadi

6.yamagOla ("taalamu vesitini, gollemu marachitini!")

and numerous movies of the 80's where he played a soft and unhated villain with the likes of Raogopal Rao and Nagabhushanam. His apt comedic timing and his very nasal voice added to his many notable comic performances.

He is father of Allu Aravind(producer), grandfather of Allu Arjun(actor) and father-in-law of Megastar Chiranjeevi(actor).

He Was awarded the title 'Hasya Kala Prapoorna' by Nritya Kala Mandali.
He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1990 by the Government of India, and was felicitated with the Raghupathi Venkaiah Award in 2001.
A statue of Allu has been recently unveiled on Ramakrishna Beach in VIZAG.

He passed away on July 30, 2004.
